Since I was 14 years old, in the late seventies, I have been building and installing computers, computer software and consulting to businesses on technology.

So, I have decades of street level experience to discuss this with an educated depth.

I know it seems like much more, but AI is just a software product, yes advanced software, but software just the same.

It is not as complicated as the so-called experts run on about.

Its underpinnings are not tested and vetted, so be very wary of any answers A.I. presents to you.

Let me differentiate the different areas of our lives A.I. is starting to occupy.

I see three main ones at the moment.

1 – B to B – The news is filled with stories about this.
     a) A.I. companies are automating tasks for customer service, basic accounting and legal analysis and robotics.
     b) These may reduce the need for human workers.

2 – B to C #1 – Popular websites will try to force us to use time consuming A.I. tools.

     a) Search Engines, like Google, are already enhanced with A.I.
          1) I find most of this overkill and stick with traditional search with links in the search results.
               a) A.I. summaries of search results leave out important answers based on biased algorithms and electronic assumptions.

3 – B to C #2 – A.I. companies, hundreds of thousands of them, will make specialized programs that will enhance existing applications on our phone, tablets and computers.
     a) As they can’t patent their automating of tasks, these will be inexpensive.

This podcast focuses on this, the market that A.I. companies really want to conquer, us, the consumer market, the little people.

This differs greatly from the business market.

B to C A.I. will have the same problem web browsers did.

The inability to secure patents will eventually lead to no cost A.I. for regular people.

The thought of paying for a browser seems ludicrous.

A.I. will be the same for individual consumers in the future.

From the start no piece of software promised to do all the electronic tasks we desired.

That will not change.

Since 1977 we’ve had specialized software for word processing, for spreadsheets, for web design, for graphics, for tax preparation and scientific and medical applications.

Again, each task had its own specialized software with privacy measures built in.

Today we have thousands more specialized applications than 50 years ago.

So, in 2026, if I were to tell you that one piece of software is going to be able to handle every activity in your electronic life, you would say that was ridiculous and you would be right.

That will never happen.

So, there will be specialized A.I. add-ons for all apps from thousands of small mom and pop A.I. companies working out of garages and bedrooms.

The consumer audience’s word of mouth will pick the winners.

Do regular people like us need the same hyper-powerful A.I. subscriptions used by the Fortune 500?

Of course we don’t.

And again, there’s really no way to patent the automation of tasks. So there’s going to be a quick race to the bottom in terms of price.

Most likely our favorite applications will offer proprietary A.I. enhancements of their own for a small fee or for free as Google does with Gemini.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Browser companies initially tried to charge, but like A.I. they could not patent the basic functionality.

So paying for a browser didn’t last long.

Paying for A.I. won’t either.
