My tech team gets this question every day.
When should I institute A.I. beyond searches?
Is it safe?
Why do I need it?
Why don’t I need it?
Many of us use A.I.s for internet searches, this memo is not about that. But do remember that the search engines, traditional or A.I., do save your search terms and the answers they provide.
These are accessed from a browser.
But so are more powerful A.I. that can gain access to your systems and data.
It is that functionality that I am concerned about here.
We don’t need the power of these large untested programs.
My first advice is to never allow cloud software to have full access to your complete data structures, in the cloud or locally.
And I would fight the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).
We get scared our competition will Out-Tech us.
Let others be the guinea pigs.
Most companies, including mine, don’t need access to all world knowledge to get my job done!
I don’t need to rewrite Shakespearean plays or worry about nuclear physics or prove Einstein wrong.
Like most business owners we need tools specific to our business models.
That is a lot less information.
Why is that important? Because the A.I. models and programs that we truly need will be small enough to run on our local computer.
Safe within our networks never needing access to the outside internet world.
So an A.I. that assists with tax research will simply sit on my computer or laptop to be used as a tool just like any other analytical tool is used.
We can maintain all of our cyber security while getting the power of customized A.I. tools made just for us.
A.I. is still a newborn baby. There will be many years before we let it have our car keys.
A.I. 2026 ladies and gentleman:

I would wait until there are tested and proven models built specifically for your industry.
These models are coming very soon for all of us so just be patient and I’ll be reporting on it as we go along.
When you do decide to implement A.I. that goes beyond searches do it very slowly and one definable task at a time.
The bonus is that pricing will get lower and lower.

Now, we need to talk about A.I. functionality that performs tasks.
This goes beyond searching.
Before you allow an A.I. to change data, analyze data, or communicate for you, make sure you have been thoroughly trained and always back up your data.
This can be dangerous if not well tested.
Remember these companies want to know all about your personnel, clients and intellectual property
They want to harvest it all behind your back.
Again you don’t need an internet based A.I. system.
We should wait for tested and trusted local, not cloud based, systems, so we can control and fine tune them ourselves.
Be patient. These are going to be made just for our industries.
Are you sure your employees are not already using autonomous A.I. systems without your knowledge.?
You may want to establish strict computer use protocols.
Do you allow your staff to:
1 – Load programs without your knowledge?
2 – Use their personal email accounts?
3 – Browse the internet for personal reasons?
Have you at least had the conversation about how vulnerable computers can be when downloading software or during personal browsing?
This also applies to home computers, cell phones and home networks.
We need to monitor what our kids are loading on our home computers and their cell phones.
They may be putting us at risk for identity theft and data extraction.
To summarize: A.I. 2026 is this:

Not this:

We have many years for them to work the kinks out.
Let others pay for it.
We will buy it for pennies on the dollar in the future when it’s safer.
